College of Speech Language & Hearing Sciences

College of Speech Language & Hearing Sciences

Established in 2007, the College of Speech Language and Hearing Sciences (CSLHS) at Ziauddin University is a landmark institution in Pakistan, founded to meet the growing demand for qualified speech-language pathologists and audiologists.

In a country of over 250 million people, where an estimated 22 million suffer from communication, swallowing, and/or hearing disorders, the shortage of trained professionals is significant. CSLHS aims to bridge this gap through world-class education, clinical training, and research.

The CSLHS curriculum integrates foundational theory with hands-on training in:

  • Linguistics and communication sciences
  • Anatomy and physiology of speech and hearing mechanisms
  • Neurology and auditory rehabilitation
  • Clinical assessment and intervention strategies
  • Research methodology

Students engage in supervised clinical practicums at on-campus clinics and externship placements in hospitals, schools, and rehabilitation centres—ensuring real-world experience from early on.

Our faculty includes experienced speech-language pathologists, audiologists, psychologists, and researchers who are deeply committed to student mentorship, clinical excellence, and academic advancement. Their involvement in research also enriches classroom learning and drives innovation.

Graduates of CSLHS are well-prepared for rewarding careers in:

  • Hospitals and rehabilitation facilities
  • Special education and mainstream schools
  • Research and academia
  • Private clinical practice
  • Policy development and advocacy

Our alumni continue to make meaningful contributions toward improving the quality of life for individuals with communication and hearing challenges across Pakistan and beyond.

Vision
“Lead the cutting-edge educational programs and evidence-based clinical services, fostering interdisciplinary scientific innovation, research, advocacy, and entrepreneurship, in multilingual societies”

Ms Sadia Hussain: Consultant Speech & Language Therapist

Sadia is a Consultant Speech and Language Therapist with two decades of expertise in adult neurological and complex rehabilitation. She practises across clinical, advisory, and medico-legal settings, providing high-level consultancy in brain injury, stroke, dysphagia, and acquired communication disorders. Sadia promotes excellence in patient care by leading education and clinical practice that empower confident professionals and deliver best-practice outcomes. Sadia currently holds Consultant roles within leading neuro-rehabilitation services, where she provides strategic leadership for inpatient and outpatient pathways, advises at Board level, and leads highly specialist services including advanced dysphagia management, FEES clinics, pharyngeal electrical stimulation and cognitive-communication rehabilitation. Her work is underpinned by evidence-based practice, robust outcome measurement, and multidisciplinary goal led rehabilitation.

In addition to her clinical consultancy, Ms Hussain is a senior medico-legal expert and Quality Assurance Lead, responsible for leading expert witness teams through structured supervision and quality assurance reviews. She leads the development of training frameworks and governance processes to support best practices in the medico-legal field. Sadia is a visiting Lecturer in Acquired Communication Disorders and Dysphagia Practice and Ethics at the University of Huddersfield, where she has contributed to post-graduate curriculum development. She is an experienced trainer and lecturer in designing and delivering advanced dysphagia training programmes for teaching hospitals. Sadia is registered with the HCPC and is a member of RCSLT, ASLTIP, and the Expert Witness Institute, alongside international specialist organisations in brain injury and dysphagia. She is a published author in the Expert Witness Journal and brings extensive cross-cultural experience working with clinical teams in Asia. At the core of Sadia’s work is a belief that excellence in patient care is achieved through strong clinical leadership and high-quality education. By developing clinicians who are confident, well-supported, and grounded in best practice, she seeks to promote holistic, outcome-focused care that enhances both patient experience and long-term rehabilitation outcomes.

Scot Greathead: Consultant Speech and Language Therapist

Scot Greathead is a Consultant Speech and Language Therapist with over 25 years of experience working across health, education, independent practice and research. He is known for his ability to translate complex theory and evidence into practical, developmentally informed support for children, young people and adults with communication differences, as well as for the professionals who work alongside them.

Scot is an experienced trainer and lecturer and has led and contributed to clinical skills and professional practice teaching on Speech and Language Therapy programmes, including leading the Clinical Skills module at Canterbury Christ Church University. His training work spans the full continuum of communication support and includes specialist expertise in Augmentative and Alternative Communication. This includes training, modelling and coaching in the use of AAC systems, with a strong emphasis on functional communication, participation and confidence. His approach supports teams to embed AAC meaningfully within everyday practice rather than treating it as a standalone intervention.

Alongside his academic work, Scot is a practicing clinician and consultant. He provides specialist assessment, intervention planning, supervision and service development for schools, local authorities, families and multidisciplinary teams. He regularly supports individuals with complex profiles involving language disorder, autism, learning disability, emotional regulation and social communication differences. Scot is also regularly instructed as an Expert Witness, producing tribunal ready reports informed by clinical expertise, research evidence and a deep understanding of education and health systems.

Scot is the Co Founder of The Engagement Project, an initiative focused on improving quality of life and outcomes for people with communication differences through engagement led practice. The project brings together clinical reasoning, workforce development and innovation, including the development of AI enabled tools designed to support those living with, and working alongside, children and adults with communication disorders. Through The Engagement Project, Scot collaborates nationally and internationally, working alongside organisations including Great Ormond Street Hospital and Afasic, the UK national charity for children and young people with speech, language and communication needs.

Scot has a strong track record in research and publication. He has authored and co-authored peer reviewed journal articles, book chapters, white papers and national publications. This includes published work with Jessica Kingsley Publishers and collaborative research with colleagues at UCL Institute of Education. His research focuses on participation, learner voice, engagement, and the use of bio ecological and action research approaches to support sustainable change in schools and services.

Across all areas of his work, Scot brings a clear and consistent focus on communication as central to participation, dignity and belonging. He is committed to supporting professionals to feel confident, reflective and skilled, and to ensuring that children, young people and adults with communication differences are understood, supported and actively engaged in their lives.

Mission and Vision

The purpose of CONECTZ is to strengthen academic and clinical professional capacity in Speech and Language Therapy through expert-led training sessions, practical demonstrations, and collaborative discussions at the college and clinic Campus of CSLHS – ZU.

Our Shared Values

CONECTZ, the Collaborative Network for Excellence in Clinical Training at Ziauddin University, is built on three core values. These values guide how the project is shaped, how people collaborate, and how success is understood across all activity. Success is defined not only by outcomes, but by the quality of partnership, decision making, and professional relationships developed through CONECTZ.

Each value is intentionally observable. Within CONECTZ, the focus is not only on shared beliefs, but on clear evidence that these values are being lived through actions, behaviors, and ways of working.

Introduction to Our Values

Community has been chosen because confident professional learning and capacity building are strongest when they are shaped collectively, grounded in local identity, and sustained through respectful, reciprocal relationships.

Excellence has been chosen to ensure that all activity is ethically grounded, evidence informed, and aligned with recognized professional standards, while allowing space for professional judgement and local context.

Curiosity has been chosen to support reflective practice, that fosters exploration, innovation and adaptability, for enhancing competence (knowledge and skill) among students and SaLTs encompassing complex and uncertain (local) realities of evolving professional practice.
