Diploma in Childhood Development & Psychopathology

The College of Speech Language & Hearing Sciences at Ziauddin University introduced a one-year Diploma in Childhood Development and Psychopathology (DCDP) in August 2013. The programme caters to teachers, remedial and early childhood educationists, and parents who want to enhance their knowledge in this area of early childhood development. 

The Diploma in Childhood Development and Psychopathology (DCDP) follows a modular curriculum that emphasises in – depth training. 7 modules covering human development from conception through adolescence and childhood disorders are taught. In addition, 16 hours of observation (the practical component) are mandatory at CSLHS recommended schools. Assistance is provided for the observation placement at the schools.

This course examines  physical, cognitive, and social development with diagnostic and intervention techniques for early childhood disorders.

Course Venue

ACELP, Institute of Child Development, Rafiqui Shaheed Road, Karachi.

Duration

The duration of the course will be six months, during which course participants will be expected to study on Friday evening and Saturday morning, defining this as a part time program.

 

For theory classes::

  • Friday,             3 pm to 5:15 pm
  • Saturday, 9 am to 1:30 pm

For practical training, trainees are required to make themselves available on working days

 

The examination will be conducted jointly by the ACELP and CSLHS-ZIAUDDIN UNIVERSITY.

Course Description

This course is designed for educators (teachers, teacher aides), related school personnel, and parents of children with special needs. The programme- equips participants with knowledge and strategies to identify and teach these students.

The course uses a blend of instructional methods:

  • Building a strong knowledge base
  • Providing practical tools and strategies
  • Completing a case study on a student with special needs
    • Identifying physical, behavioral, and educational needs
    • Developing a customised educational plan
    • Implementing and monitoring the plan
  • Group activities to enhance learning and collaboration
  • Reflection on learning experiences
Programme Objectives

This diploma will provide students with a wide range of knowledge (both theoretical and practical) aimed at improving screening and referral practices, thereby lowering the age at which young children are identified with developmental delays and disorders.

This course offers a strong foundation in the normative path of physical, cognitive, and social development with diagnostic and intervention techniques for early childhood disorders.

Intermediate / A Levels from all disciplines.

Application Processing Fee: PKR: 5,000/-

Tuition Fee: PKR: 66,000/- (per semester)

Examination Fee: PKR: 9,000/- (per semester)

Note: 

Any additional taxes imposed by the government will be the liability of the students, parents, or guardians. The university reserves the right to increase the fees if required, according to the recommendation of the governing body.  An advance fee to be paid semester-wise All dues need to be cleared within two weeks of the commencement of the academic year. A 2% surcharge per month will be levied on outstanding fees after the due date.
