Faculty of Veterinary and Animal Sciences is the first institution in Karachi accredited by the Pakistan Veterinary Medical Council launched by Ziauddin University. Our Faculty is proud to offer a range of undergraduate programmes, including the Doctor of Veterinary Medicine and Livestock Assistant Diploma. We also provide a Diploma Programme in Artificial Insemination Technique.

Our campus is spread over 75 acres and features excellent laboratories, well-equipped classrooms, seminar halls, and a library, among other facilities. We are committed to providing up-to-date resources and technologies that support our students’ academic and professional development in the field of veterinary and animal sciences.

In addition to our facilities, the Faculty has close linkages with provincial livestock departments, farmers, and other veterinary institutions. These connections provide opportunities for industry awareness and farm management exposure for our students. Our mini zoo, goat farm, buffaloes, and large animals are additional attractions that enhance our students’ hands-on learning experiences.

Our teaching faculty is highly qualified, with many members holding foreign postgraduate qualifications and years of practical experience. We are dedicated to providing a rigorous academic curriculum that prepares our students for successful careers in the field of veterinary and animal sciences.

The Faculty of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (ZU FAVS) is equipped with state-of-the-art laboratories across its various departments. These include specialized facilities in Poultry Science, Animal Nutrition, Anatomy and Histology, Microbiology and Virology, Parasitology, Pathology, Biochemistry and Physiology, as well as Pharmacology. Each laboratory is well-resourced to support advanced research and practical training, ensuring students and researchers have access to the tools and environment necessary for academic excellence and scientific innovation.
Library Resources

The university library is committed to supporting students, faculty, and researchers by providing access to a wide range of academic resources, both physical and digital. The facilities include spacious reading area with seating capacity for over 60 students, desktop computers for research and academic use, fully air-conditioned environment for comfortable study, access to weekly newspapers for general reading and current affairs and quiet and peaceful study atmosphere.

The library has a collection of printed books across multiple disciplines including Digital versions of printed books available for online access, access to online journals, Anti- Plagiarism software (Turnitin) and Endnote.

The library provides access to the prestigious research databases including HEC Digital Library, EBSCO Host, WHO – Research for Life. These platforms offer a wide range of academic books/ journals, articles, and research material to support student and faculty research needs.

Veterinary Hospital

A well-established veterinary hospital is in place, staffed by highly skilled professional veterinarians and equipped with state-of-the-art diagnostic facilities. These include X-ray and ultrasound imaging, hematology analysis, ELISA reader, Rose Bengal test, drug sensitivity testing, and diagnostic tools for identifying blood and fecal parasites. On-demand veterinary services—such as vaccination, deworming, and animal treatment—are also provided directly at farmers’ doorsteps, all at nominal charges.

 

Livestock Farm

For practical training purposes, ZUFVAS has a dedicated livestock farm located at its Link Road Campus. The farm houses a variety of animals, including cows, buffaloes, goats, and camels, providing students with hands-on experience in animal handling and care.

Mini Zoo

The mini zoo features a diverse collection of animals and birds, including peacocks, turkeys, monkeys, rabbits, ducks, hens, deer, lovebirds, pheasants, cockatoos, wild parrots, and doves.

World Wildlife Day

World Wildlife Day is celebrated every year on March 3rd to raise awareness about the importance of protecting the world’s wild animals and plants. It was established by the United Nations General Assembly in 2013, marking the day the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES) was signed in 1973. An orientation program for the new DVM class was held at the Clifton Campus on February 17, 2025. Professor Dr. Zafar Iqbal Qureshi, Dean of ZUFVAS, warmly welcomed the students and emphasized the importance of dedication and hard work in their academic journey. He also highlighted the diverse career opportunities available to DVM graduates. Dr. Munawar Ali Rajput, Director General of Poultry Production and Research Sindh, along with Dr. Waqar Alam from the poultry sector, also addressed the students. Dog Show

Dog shows are celebrated and organized to showcase the beauty, intelligence, and abilities of dogs, and to promote responsible dog ownership and breeding. These events are more than competitions they are also about honoring the deep bond between humans and dogs. World Egg Day

World Egg Day is celebrated to recognize the nutritional value of eggs, their importance in global food security, and the role they play in supporting healthy diets worldwide. It is observed every year on the second Friday of October and was established by the

International Egg Commission (IEC) in 1996. Eggs are a sustainable and accessible protein source, especially important in addressing malnutrition and hunger in developing countries. The highlights of the day are presented below
