DIRECTORATE OF EDUCATIONAL DEVELOPMENT (DED)

The Directorate of Educational Development (DED) strives to provide a conducive learning environment across Ziauddin University via opportunities for all the faculties to nurture their teaching roles. We aim to empower Ziauddin University teachers by providing a structured programme to help prepare themselves with the necessary knowledge & skills required to undertake their teaching roles effectively; seek quality improvement of the Ziauddin University Q-bank via conducting regular peer review of questions with content experts; foster scholarship in educational research across all Ziauddin University disciplines. Over time, diversification within the University has expanded with the creation of new disciplines. Amongst the various strengths of DED, the one most important is the roles played by its mission & goals in promoting the scholarship of teaching & leadership through educational innovations, teaching & assessment methodologies and evaluation plans. With our aspirations, we are moving towards accomplishments of DED services to address the unique needs of diverse disciplines of Ziauddin University. We are determined to provide quality teaching and learning experiences through capacity building to achieve the highest possible standards in all the areas of curriculum, teaching and assessment.

DED Highlights 2022
  • From 2019 onwards, conducted three CHPE (Certificate course in Health Professions Education) courses.
    • A blended learning course embedded with face-to-face and online teaching modalities.
    • The targeted audience is academicians from Medical, Dental, Nursing and allied Health Sciences Pakistan including Ziauddin University.
  • Competencies revised for MBBS & BDS programmes as per new standardized generic ZU Competencies defined for all programmes.
    • Aligned these competencies with exit-level program specific outcomes and course objectives.
  • Carried out MDRs (Multidisciplinary reviews) of questions to ensure the validity and reliability of the assessment for all ZU programs both at undergraduate and postgraduate level. (Refer to Annexure-1A: Summary of DED Activities from Jan 2021 – Dec 2022).
  • Conducted a series of ongoing Educational Methodology Workshops on the topics of Writing Learning Objectives, Adult Teaching and Learning, Developing One-Best MCQs, and Assessment and Feedback.
  • Conducted workshops on the Interpretation of Post-hoc Analysis for ZMC-Clinical faculty and how to perform Post-hoc Analysis for examination staff.
  • Conducted Research Methodology Workshops thrice in the year in collaboration with the Department of Research and ORIC.
  • Participated in proposal submission for Research Grant Application.
  • DED faculty conducted sessions for postgraduates of:
    • MS-SLP on Inclusive Education
    • MSN on Education
    • Mphil (Medical & Dental basic sciences) on Educational Methodology
  • Conducted Professionalism (Elective) course:
    • It is a 3-credit-hour course, comprising 48 contact hours, spread over 16 weeks for MSN Batch-9 and MSN Batch-10.
    • It is a Blended/Hybrid course including Synchronous and Asynchronous sessions with few face-to-face meetings.
  • Conducted pre-conference workshop of an international Conference: IMECon-2023, convened by CPSP.
  • Engaged in research work, with two publications in 2022, and one in 2023.
DED Highlights 2021
  • Conducted the 1st contact session of 2nd CHPE (Certificate course in Health Professions Education) in March 2021.
  • Blended learning certificate course embedded with face-to-face and online teaching modalities.
  • The targeted audience is academic designation holders from Basic & Clinical Sciences, Faculty of Health Sciences.
  • Participation was from various Medical & Dental programmes of Pakistan including Ziauddin University.
  • Revision of the competencies is in progress initially defined for MBBS & BDS programmes in 2015 in order to standardize these as generic competencies for all  programmes.
  • Learners have to achieve these competencies by the time they reach the end of the programme.
  • These competencies have in turn been aligned with the exit-level/programme learning outcomes and course objectives.
  • Carried out MDRs (Multidisciplinary reviews) of questions to ensure validity and reliability of the assessment. (Refer Annexure-1A: Summary of DED Activities from Jan 2021 – Dec 2021).
