NEUROSCIENCES

Neurosciences is a multidisciplinary field dedicated to the study of the brain, spinal cord, and peripheral nervous system. A key subspeciality within this discipline is Neurophysiology, which focuses on the functioning of the nervous system, often using advanced electrophysiological tools.

The BS in Medical Technology (Neurosciences) programme at Ziauddin University offers comprehensive academic and practical training in neurodiagnostic and polysomnographic technologies. Students are introduced to a wide range of neurophysiological testing methods and sleep study procedures, preparing them for a dynamic career in neurohealthcare.

Neurophysiologic and polysomnographic technologists play a crucial role in assisting physicians with the diagnosis of conditions affecting the brain, spinal cord, peripheral nerves, and sleep disorders.

Clinical Observership & Skills Training

Students participate in structured observerships at Ziauddin Hospital’s neurodiagnostic and sleep centres. These observerships allow them to experience the application of neurophysiological techniques in real clinical environments such as EEG labs, EMG suites, ICUs, operating rooms, and sleep laboratories.

Through guided observation of procedures like EEGs, nerve conduction studies, sleep monitoring, and intraoperative neuromonitoring, students gain valuable exposure to the equipment, protocols, and interdisciplinary teamwork essential to the field. These experiences are integrated after each semester examination and continue throughout the duration of the undergraduate programme, ensuring steady progress in both understanding and professional confidence.Â
