NEUROSCIENCES

Neuroscience is a multidisciplinary study of brain system including brain, spinal cord and nerve cells throughout the body. Neurophysiology is an important subspecialty of Neuroscience. It focuses on the physiology and functioning of the nervous system, often using electrophysiological tools.

The Neurosciences Program at Ziauddin University offers the best accredited neurodiagnostic and polysomnographic technologist training in the area. Students will learn about the function and disorders of the nervous system, as well as the principles and practical applications of neurodiagnostic and polysomnographic testing.

One of the only programs to train in five modalities, including EEG, nerve conduction studies (NCS), sleeps studies (PSG), Intraoperative Monitoring (IoM) and evoked potentials (EPs).

Neurophysiologic and polysomnographic technologist perform a variety of testing such as EEG, NCS, PSG, IoM and evoked potentials to assist physicians in the diagnosis and evaluation of diseases of the brain, spinal cord, peripheral nervous system and disorders of sleep.

Clinical Training

Neurosciences curriculum includes a mixture of classroom learning that includes hands-on practice sessions, and plenty of clinical experience working with real patients.

Neurodiagnostic studies are performed in a laboratory, emergency room, operating room, intensive care unit, special monitoring units or at the patient’s bedside.

The Neurosciences Program includes clinical rotations in the EEG, EMG (NCS and EPs) and the sleep centers. Each area has state-of-the-art electronic digital instrumentation for patient test recordings.

During rotations in the EEG and EMG laboratories, students are exposed to the technical aspects of neurophysiology and surgical monitoring of spine related disorders in the operating room.
