The Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) is a comprehensive five-year, semester-based graduate degree programme recognised by the Higher Education Commission (HEC). Designed to equip students with in-depth theoretical knowledge and hands-on clinical expertise, the programme prepares future physical therapists to excel in patient care, rehabilitation, and therapeutic interventions.

Clinical Training

Students of Ziauddin College of Physical Therapy have an exclusive advantage of being part of an organisation renowned for its extensive network of tertiary care hospitals. Students of 3rd, 4th, and 5th Professionals complete their clinical training at various physical therapy units across primary, secondary, and tertiary care hospitals in the metropolis. In addition, Ziauddin Hospital Sukkur is launching its clinical services. This state-of-the-art facility, with over 200 beds and all modern amenities, provides students with an excellent environment for clinical training. Here, they can benefit from hands-on experience and advanced healthcare services, reinforcing our commitment to providing the best services in the healthcare sector. 

Mission Statement of the Programme

To serve mankind by preparing graduates of the Doctor of Physical Therapy as professionals having a commitment to excellence in total patient care guided by belief in human worth and dignity with integrated approaches compatible to evolution in the health profession. These physiotherapy practitioners will be the future leaders in their field, equipped with an ethical approach to practice along with a strong research base, critical thinking and lifelong learning. 

Programme Objective
  1. To integrate and apply clinical basic science, applied science, and professional knowledge.
  2. To be skilled professionals, self-directed learners, and competent clinical decision-makers and to prevent and reduce the incidence and severity of impairments, functional limitations, and disabilities.
  3. To acquire and sustain the confidence of the patient, care–givers, colleagues, and community members by demonstrating a high level of competence, accountability, ethical standards, and moral behaviours through critical reasoning, clinical decision making and knowledge.
  4. To understand, critically evaluate, and apply scientific research.
  5. To respond sensitively to the diverse healthcare needs of patients, care–givers, and society.
  6. To contribute in the evolution of the physical therapy profession and its role in the health care sector with emphasis on the promotion of health and wellness in the community.
  7. To provide cost-effective, quality-based services.

These objectives are to be accomplished through

  1. An innovative, integrated, system-based curriculum designed to permit continuous evolution/improvement.
  2. A strong content foundation in the physical, clinical, and behavioural sciences.
  3. Problem-based and case-based learning experiences, integrating scientific knowledge with clinical expertise.
  4. An emphasis on critical thinking, clinical decision making, outcomes analysis, and evidence-based practice.
  5. Education environment designed to promote learning.

A sequence of simulated and actual clinical experience across the curriculum. 

Higher Secondary School Certificate (involving 12 years of schooling) or an IBCC equivalent qualification in any science group with any of the subject i.e, (Biology/ Physics/Chemistry/Anatomy/Physiology/Physiotherapy) with at least 60% cumulative score. Students from overseas, as well as those awaiting the results of their Board of Intermediate or A- level Examinations, are also eligible to apply.

Student Selection

Final selection of students is decided on the basis of their performance in the following:

  • Secondary School Certificate
  • Higher Secondary Certificate
  • Ziauddin University Test
  • Interview
Aptitude Test
The university conducts an Aptitude Test for all eligible candidates. The test consists of Multiple Choice Questions of various types. The test comprises four to five sections designed to assess each applicant’s performance in the areas provided in sample paper.
Interview

Applicants are interviewed to assess their suitability to complete the respective course and pursue a career in health sciences. 

Notification Of Admission

University will inform successful applicants and a deadline will be given for the confirmation of admission. Offers not accepted by the given deadline will be cancelled.

Graduates of the Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) programme will be equipped with the knowledge, skills, and professional competencies required to excel in the field of physiotherapy. Upon successful completion of the programme, students will be able to:

1. Clinical Expertise & Patient Care Assess, diagnose, and treat a wide range of musculoskeletal, neurological, and cardiopulmonary conditions. Develop and implement evidence-based treatment plans tailored to individual patient needs. Utilise modern physiotherapy techniques, rehabilitation strategies, and assistive technologies to enhance patient outcomes.
2. Critical Thinking & Evidence-Based Practice Apply scientific research and clinical reasoning to physiotherapy interventions. Analyse and interpret patient data to make informed decisions regarding treatment plans. Continuously evaluate and integrate emerging trends and advancements in physiotherapy.
3. Professionalism & Ethical Practice Adhere to professional ethics, legal frameworks, and healthcare regulations in physiotherapy practice. Demonstrate empathy, cultural competence, and respect for patients from diverse backgrounds. Uphold confidentiality, integrity, and patient-centred care in all professional interactions.
4. Communication & Interdisciplinary Collaboration Effectively communicate with patients, families, and healthcare professionals to ensure holistic care. Work collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams to optimise rehabilitation and patient outcomes. Educate patients and caregivers on injury prevention, rehabilitation exercises, and lifestyle modifications.
5. Research & Lifelong Learning Engage in clinical research to contribute to the advancement of physiotherapy practices. Critically evaluate scientific literature and integrate findings into clinical decision-making. Commit to continuous professional development through workshops, certifications, and advanced studies.
6. Leadership & Healthcare Advocacy Take on leadership roles in physiotherapy departments, research institutions, and healthcare organisations. Advocate for patient rights, accessibility to physiotherapy services, and the promotion of public health initiatives. Contribute to the development of policies that enhance the role of physiotherapy in healthcare systems.

Our Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) programme prepares graduates to become skilled and compassionate physiotherapists, capable of making meaningful contributions to patient care, rehabilitation, and the broader healthcare sector.

With the growing advancements and awareness about physical therapy, the need for physical therapists immensely increased in various sectors, both nationally and internationally. After completion of the degree, the graduate can practise independently or work in hospitals, rehabilitation centres, sports clubs, and fitness centres, or may serve military as a physical therapist. They can also pursue their careers in different distinguished domains as per their interest and can step up in the world of academia and research.
