The programme ‘Doctor of Occupational Therapy (DOT)’ was launched in 2018 by the Department of Occupational Therapy at ZCRS in Karachi. It has evolved into the College of Occupational Therapy (ZCOT) as of December 2023, under the Faculty of Allied Health Sciences, demonstrating its remarkable progression to become a dedicated institution solely focused on this programme.
It’s an important step taken to meet the immense need for occupational therapists in the country, which reduces the gap in education, clinical practices, and integration into rehabilitation teams at different continuums of care.
More than 2.4 billion people, nearly a third of the global population, are living with health conditions that could greatly benefit from rehabilitation alone. Occupational Therapy plays a crucial role in facilitating functional recovery and maximising occupational performance. However, the scarcity of qualified professionals in this field is evident.
The college provides both undergraduate and 1 year professional deficiency programmes, namely the Doctor of Occupational Therapy and the Accelerated Doctor of Occupational Therapy.
The curriculum at ZCOT covers a wide range of subjects by providing theoretical Knowledge, hands-on training, and clinical exposure, in a variety of settings, for patients ranging from young children with developmental delays to adults recuperating from injuries or elderly
people striving for independence. Our institution gives students the resources they need to identify, diagnose, and treat various disorders.
Our faculty members are highly qualified and experienced Occupational Therapy professionals who are dedicated to giving our students the finest education possible. They are committed to assisting our students in maximising their potential and excelling in their career.
