Summer Internship Programme – 2025 – “Life at the Bench”

The College of Molecular Medicine, in collaboration with the Department of Research at Ziauddin University, successfully conducted the four-week Summer Internship Programme – 2025 starting from 1st July, 2025 at Multidisciplinary Labs, Clifton campus. The programme was led organized and coordinated by Ms. Saba Farooq and was supervised by Prof. Dr. Talat Mirza, Executive Director Research – FHS & Principal Molecular Medicine, who introduced the key objectives and focused areas of the internship, emphasising the importance of hands-on research training in molecular and genetic techniques. A total of 28 participants attended the programme, which covered research methodology, scientific writing, statistical analysis, molecular biology techniques (DNA/RNA extraction, PCR), cell and tissue culture, histology, immunohistochemistry, bioinformatics, proteomics and neurosciences. Sessions were facilitated by highly experienced PhD faculty members, including Dr. Shumaila Usman, Dr. Ambrina Khatoon, Dr. Abdul Hameed, Dr. Rehan Imad, Dr. Aisha Ishaque, and others. The internship brought together a diverse group of participants from A-levels, undergraduate, and postgraduate backgrounds, representing several reputable institutions both from Karachi and other cities. This mix of educational levels added a rich layer of academic diversity and collaborative learning to the sessions. Many students expressed interest in continuing their research journey and appreciated the opportunity to gain early exposure to molecular lab practices and advanced techniques.

The programme concluded with student presentations, a quiz, and feedback session. The Registrar of Ziauddin University joined as the chief guest for the closing ceremony, where he shared his research perspectives, appreciated the participants’ efforts, and distributed certificates. The event ended with a group photo and refreshments. Participant feedback was overwhelmingly positive, highlighting the programme’s academic strength and practical relevance in the field of molecular medicine and research.
