Ziauddin University (ZU) is well-known for its reputation in research excellence, innovation, and quality of education. The postgraduate programme in Health Sciences started at ZU in 1997.

The postgraduate programme in the Health Sciences at Ziauddin University is Interdisciplinary and Multidisciplinary, with wide areas of research and clinical facilities for student learning and innovation are present in different campuses with extensive interaction between the basic science and clinical faculty. Programme objectives are achieved through a combination of formal coursework, comprehensive examination, and an encouraging environment for independent research leading to a thesis.

1. At least 18 years of education in the relevant discipline, Minimum CGPA 3.0/4.00 or 60% marks (in annual system) from HEC-recognized institute (essentially the undergraduate and postgraduate degrees should be HEC attested or/and having HEC Equivalence certificate in case of foreign university education or equivalent local education).
2. The students having a strong demonstrated interest in obtaining PhD degree, but their CGPA is below 3.00 (out of 4.0 in the semester system) or 60% marks (in the annual system) in the most recent relevant degree obtained, may be admitted to a PhD programme subject to study additional courses of 9–12 CH of level 7, taking a zero semester, and score minimum 3.00 out of 4.00 GPA as recommended by the admission committee. The relevant college/faculty admission committee may set the rigorous criteria for assignment of additional courses based on CGPA or any other factor that will be helpfulin determining the suitability of the candidate for the PhD programme. Moreover, the college/department may opt not to offer admissions/invite applications for admission from graduates having below 3.00 (out of 4.0) or 60% marks in the most recent relevant degree obtained.Admission in PhD programme will only be granted after successful completion of zero semester and all the other requirements mentioned above. The students will be provided a separate marksheet/transcript/certificate through the examination department for zero semester results.
3. Students pursuing MS/MPhil studies and interested in continuing to PhD may be granted provisional admission upon satisfaction with the Admission Committee regarding the Statement of Purpose and students’ commitment to the PhD programme, provided that confirmation of the admission shall be subject to the fulfilment of the following conditions within a period of one year from the date of provisional admission:
   1. Award of MS/MPhil degree, as prescribed in this policy.
   2. Clearance of the admission/aptitude test, as prescribed in this policy.
   3. The candidate should pass the:
      • The university aptitude test equivalent to GRE/HAT General, with a passing score of 60%.
      OR
      • GRE/HAT General/Equivalent tests conducted by testing bodies accredited by HEC, with a passing score of 60%.
      OR
      • The college/department may conduct a subject test for admission in PhD programmes with a passing score of 60% or above, as deemed suitable.

1. The relevant regulatory body permits.
2. The applicant has a strong interest in pursuing a PhD in a different discipline.
3. The applicant has passed the GRE-Subject/Equivalent Test with a minimum of 50% marks in the discipline of admission and has taken 6-9 CH of deficiency courses of level 7 as recommended by the admission committee.
4. The college/department may opt not to offer admissions/invite applications for admission from graduates having Intra-disciplinary/other qualifications background.

2. Clear articulation of the current understanding of the intended field and ideas for potential research
3. Explanation of the intended impact of the proposed research
4. The prospective candidates shall demonstrate passion and enthusiasm for the area of research.
5. In case of any other scale of marking in the prerequisite transcript /degree for MS/M Phil/PhD programmes, HEC conversion formula should be used to determine the equivalent CGPA.
6. If more than one marking scales are mentioned on the prerequisite degree/transcript for MS/ MPhil/PhD programmes, only CGPA will be considered for admission eligibility of candidate in the specific programme.
