The Masters of Science in Public Health (MSPH) Programme offered by Ziauddin University is a comprehensive postgraduate programme designed to enhance the health status of the population by equipping public health and healthcare professionals with the necessary knowledge and skills. This programme focuses on providing high-quality education and training in public health sciences. Mission

The Master of Public Health programme is dedicated to providing students with the expertise, experience, and information required to tackle challenging public health issues. We prepare graduates to lead in various public health contexts by offering a thorough, multidisciplinary education that combines theory and real-world application and to develop a thorough awareness of health equality and policy, encourage evidence-based practices, and stimulate critical thinking.

Programme Outcomes
  • Educate and Train Public Health Leaders: The programme provides comprehensive training and education to equip students with the skills necessary to address public health challenges and become effective leaders in the field.
  • Conduct Research to Improve Public Health: Students engage in cutting-edge research to identify social causes of diseases, design interventions, and develop evidence-based solutions to address public health challenges.
  • Collaborate to Improve Public Health: The programme fosters partnerships with various stakeholders, including government agencies, non-governmental organizations, and community groups, to improve public health outcomes through collaboration and collective efforts.

Practical Application of Public Health Knowledge: Through practicum placements and a supervised dissertation, students integrate their public health knowledge, skills, and methods in real-world practice contexts, ensuring they are well-prepared for the challenges of the field.

To be eligible for the MSPH Programme (30 credits), candidates must meet the following criteria:

  • MBBS (Registered with PMDC)
  • BDS (Registered with PMDC)
  • MD (Registered with PMDC)
  • BSc Nursing 4 Years (Registered with PNC)
  • DVM (Registered with Veterinary Council)
  • BSc Paramedics-4 years
  • BSPH
  • Pharm.D./Equivalent (Registered with Pharmacy Council)
  • BS Physiotherapy/Equivalent
  • Or equivalent health-related education
Programme Duration

The MSPH programme consists of 30 credits, including 8 core courses (2-3 elective courses in the specialised track) or a project or thesis. One credit is equivalent to 16 hours of formal teaching/contact hours or 45 hours of practical fieldwork. Practical fieldwork is defined as consisting of individual fieldwork, group fieldwork, field visits, individual assignments and class exercises.

Upon completion of the MSPH Program, graduates will be well-prepared to pursue a wide range of career opportunities in the field of public health. Some potential career paths include:

    • Public Health Officer: Work in governmental agencies, such as ministries of health, to develop and implement public health policies and programs.
    • Epidemiologist: Conduct research and investigate patterns and causes of diseases and injuries to improve public health outcomes.
    • Health Educator: Design and implement educational programmes to promote healthy behaviours and prevent diseases within communities.
    • Health Policy Analyst: Analyse health policies and their impact on public health and provide recommendations for improvement.
    • Programme Manager: Oversee the planning, implementation, and evaluation of public health programs and initiatives.

 

These are just a few examples, and the MSPH Programme opens doors to various other positions in governmental agencies, non-governmental organisations, research institutions, and community health organisations.
