The Department of Civil Engineering, ZUFESTM, is introducing the four-year Bachelor of Science in Climate Change and Environmental Science programme to prepare graduates capable of addressing the complex challenges of climate change and environmental sustainability through scientific knowledge, practical skills, research, and innovative solutions. The curriculum has been developed in accordance with the HEC Undergraduate Education Policy and is designed to address emerging national and global priorities.
Climate Change and Environmental Science is an interdisciplinary field that integrates the natural and social sciences, engineering, and technology to understand interactions among climate systems, ecosystems, and human activities. It focuses on climate change mitigation and adaptation, environmental protection, sustainable resource management, biodiversity conservation, pollution control, and environmental resilience to address the growing environmental challenges facing society.
Pakistan is among the countries most vulnerable to the impacts of climate change, including rising temperatures, extreme weather events, floods, droughts, declining air and water quality, waste management challenges, and ecosystem degradation. These challenges have created an urgent demand for professionals who can contribute to climate resilience, environmental protection, public health, sustainable development, environmental policy, and evidence-based decision-making across government, industry, research, and development sectors.
The BS Climate Change and Environmental Science programme provides a balanced combination of theoretical knowledge, laboratory experience, field training, research, and industry engagement. It incorporates contemporary areas such as climate science, environmental impact assessment, Geographic Information Systems (GIS), remote sensing, artificial intelligence, environmental modelling, renewable energy, disaster risk management, and environmental health. Through interdisciplinary learning, professional ethics, community engagement, experiential learning, and industry-focused capstone projects, the programme aims to produce competent graduates who can develop innovative and sustainable solutions that strengthen climate resilience and improve environmental quality at the local, national, and global levels.Â
To provide quality education, research, and experiential learning in climate change and environmental science that develops competent and ethical professionals capable of advancing sustainability, climate resilience, environmental stewardship, and community well-being.Â
