School-Based Oral Health Education and Dental Check-Up Programme
The Department of Community & Preventive Dentistry, Ziauddin College of Dentistry, Ziauddin University, conducted a school-based oral health education and dental check-up programme at Seek English School on 13th August 2026. The programme aims to promote preventive oral healthcare, enhance oral health awareness, and provide dental screening for schoolchildren from primary classes through Grade 10.
Second-year BDS students under the supervision of faculty members screened 550 schoolchildren. The dental check-up provided an opportunity to identify oral health concerns early and reinforced the importance of good oral hygiene and healthy dental habits. The schoolchildren received Colgate oral hygiene kits to support the adoption of appropriate oral hygiene practices at home.
The programme served as a valuable experiential learning opportunity for BDS students. Through their involvement in school-based screening and oral health education, students gained practical experience in community-based dental care, health promotion, communication, patient interaction, and professional engagement with children in a school setting.
As the programme coincided with Pakistan’s Independence Day celebrations, dental students incorporated engaging recreational activities, including distributing Pakistani flags, face painting, and interactive activities for the children. These activities created a lively and enjoyable environment and helped strengthen rapport between the dental team and the school community.
The school administration, teachers, and schoolchildren expressed sincere appreciation for the oral health education and dental check-up provided by Ziauddin University. Seek English School also expressed its interest in continued collaboration to support the oral health and overall well-being of its schoolchildren.
