Ziauddin University

College of Occupational Therapy (Karachi)

The College of Occupational Therapy (ZCOT) represents the evolution of the Occupational Therapy (DOT) programme, which was initially introduced in 2018 under the Department of Occupational Therapy at Ziauddin College of Rehabilitation Sciences (ZCRS) in Karachi, Pakistan. This transition occurred in December 2023, marking a significant milestone as ZCOT integrated into the Faculty of Allied Health Sciences.

As there is a critical need for Occupational Therapy services in our nation, Ziauddin University has taken a significant step forward. We are proud to be the sole institution offering a five-year degree programme in Occupational Therapy. This initiative is crucial in bridging the gap in education, enhancing clinical practices, and integrating Occupational Therapy into rehabilitation teams across various care continuums.

With over 2.4 billion people worldwide, accounting for nearly one-third of the global population, facing health conditions that can significantly benefit from rehabilitation services, Occupational Therapy emerges as a crucial player in facilitating functional recovery and optimising occupational performance. However, the scarcity of qualified professionals in this field is glaringly evident, highlighting the urgent need for skilled and dedicated experts to address this growing demand.

The college offers comprehensive programmes, including undergraduate studies and a one-year deficiency programme, specifically the Doctor of Occupational Therapy and Accelerated Doctor of Occupational Therapy.

At ZCOT, our curriculum encompasses a wide range of subjects, equipping students with theoretical knowledge, hands-on training, and extensive clinical exposure across various settings. This exposure ranges from young children with developmental delays to adults recuperating from injuries or elderly people striving for independence. Our institution provides students with the necessary resources to effectively identify, diagnose, and treat various disorders.

Our faculty members are accomplished occupational therapists with years of experience who are committed to providing our students with the best instruction available. Their dedication lies in helping our students reach their full potential and succeed in their careers.
