Introduction
Rehabilitation Sciences is an interdisciplinary field that focuses on human function and disability and serves as an essential segment of modern health care system. It focuses on assessment and evaluation of functional and structural disorders related to musculoskeletal, neurological, cardiovascular & respiratory systems. Basic and applied research in the field of rehabilitation sciences are directed towards enhancing physical and psychosocial functioning, participation in life situations, and quality of life of people with disabilities by using non-invasive methods of treatment based on manual therapy, electrotherapy and occupational therapy. Hence, rehabilitation sciences cover basic parameters of healing that includes prevention, promotion, diagnosis, rehabilitation and cure.

Mission

Ziauddin College of Rehabilitation Sciences is committed to produce competent Rehab specialist by providing knowledge and skill based education also inculcating the element of research with intent to improve patient care.

To produce competent and dedicated health care professionals having excellence in services and education based on clinical reasoning and teaching that is at par with International standards.

Achievements

Three PhD fellows among the faculty have completed their PhD in Physical Therapy in year 2020. This year two MPhil candidates have been awarded with the degree. Two Assistant Professors got enrolled for PhD in Health, Physical Education & Sport Sciences at University of Karachi. Furthermore, for the promotion of evidence based practice recent volumes of Pakistan Journal of Rehabilitation are under process of publication.

Future Plans

Ziauddin College of Rehabilitation Sciences is planning to announce post graduate program in Physical Education Health & Sport Sciences and advance courses in sports and nutrition, Along with the series of workshops and diplomas. Facilitation of faculty to upgrade their skills by attending national and international workshops, seminars and conferences and motivate them to become more research oriented. It is further planned to work in collaboration with other national and international institutions to promote interdisciplinary research and evidence based practices.

History

Ziauddin College of Rehabilitation Sciences was established in year 1999 with an aim to produce competent rehab specialists by providing quality education and hands on skills to improve the patient care.

ZCRS offers Doctorate, MS/M.Phil., Doctor, Bachelor, Up-gradation/Deficiency and diploma programs in the field of rehabilitation sciences namely:

  • Bachelor’s in Physical Education Health & Sport Sciences
  • Associate Degree program in Physical Education Health & Sport Sciences

More than 850 professionals till date have passed out from Ziauddin College of Rehabilitation Sciences and are working in major health care facilities in the country and Abroad. More than 600 students are in process of graduating in different programs offered by ZCRS.

 

Ziauddin College of Physical Therapy (ZCPT) was established in 1999 at North location offering four years’ Bachelors of Physical Therapy. ZCPT has the privilege to be first institute in Pakistan to offer Master in physical therapy in year 2000. With the introduction of Doctor of Occupational Therapy, the nomenclature of college was changed to Ziauddin College of Rehabilitation Sciences (ZCRS) in 2017. In 2018, under Department of Physical education, Health and Sports Science Initially Six Month Diploma in fitness and training was started and after one year, four years’ bachelor’s in Physical education, Health and Sports Science was also initiated. In line with chancellor’s vision and the need of society for quality health care education, the classes of ZCRS are now operational at North, Clifton and Education City, Link Road. Till date, around 1000 students have graduated in different programs along with 38 post graduates inclusive of three PhDs. Future plans of college include commencement of PhD in Physical therapy program, Post graduate Diploma in Occupational Therapy in upcoming academic year and a state of art infrastructure at Clifton location providing rehabilitation education and patient care services under one roof.
