The Bachelor of Science in Midwifery (BSM) programme is a four-year undergraduate degree that prepares students to become skilled midwives.
Midwifery is the profession of midwives and has a unique body of knowledge, skills and professional attitudes drawn from disciplines shared by other health professions such as science and sociology but practiced by midwives within a professional framework of autonomy, partnership, ethics, and accountability. BSM graduates can work in hospitals, maternity clinics, and community health centers as midwives. They can pursue careers in maternal healthcare education, research, and policymaking. Opportunities also exist in NGOs, international health organizations, and private midwifery practice.
Graduates will develop essential midwifery skills, including prenatal, childbirth, and postnatal care. They will apply evidence-based practices to ensure maternal and neonatal well-being. Effective communication, ethical decision-making, and cultural competence will be emphasized. They will also gain expertise in emergency obstetric care, health education, and advocacy for maternal rights. The program fosters leadership and research skills to contribute to healthcare advancements.
