ZCOMS First Batch Farewell

Bidding farewell is the absolute toughest thing to do because you have to walk away with just a memory and after a while that memory fades. ZCOMS organized its first farewell on 19th November 2016. It was one of its kinds because the students of ZCOMS actually put in their heart and soul to organize and bid farewell to their seniors. Awards and titles were presented to the faculty and first batch students. Precious memories were shared which the seniors would take along with them when they graduate and will treasure them for decades to come.

Neuromuscular Electrical Stimulation Therapy

CSLHS has extended in-house Neuromuscular electrical stimulation therapy for patients with dysphagia at the DZH with Ms Maha Khalid and Ms Amina Siddiqui.

Amina Siddiqui and Maha Khalid qualified from CIAO – US, for NMES through Vital Stim Therapy for Dysphagia, on 14th November 2016, and commenced speech and swallow clinic at the DZH on 3rd January 2017.

Ziauddin University Welcomes New Students Of Pharm. D

Prof. Dr. Pirzada Qasim Raza Siddiqui, Vice Chancellor, Ziauddin University welcomed the fresh batch of students at the commencement day of Pharm D. He said that the new batch of students is now entering into the professional world where progress is linked with efforts and the hard work would be fruits of successful professional.

Mr. Haroon Qassim, Managing Director, Pharm Evo (Pvt.) Ltd shared that profession of pharmacy has seen an evolution in Pakistan since it began but the journey is far from over. Pakistan Pharma Industry made great strides in sufficiently addressing the national as well as international needs. Pharmacy graduates and post graduates students need practical knowledge as well as technical skill to become a successful pharmacist. He emphasized that by embarking on a career in pharmacy, they are joining an ancient and honorable profession that deals with the latest, up-to-date technological advances for the benefit of mankind. At present pharmacists have become one of the most important part of the healthcare delivery team.

“ As you begin your time at Ziauddin University and plan your 5 years here, I would urge you to remember that your undergraduate education is a foundation for life. I hope your time at Ziauddin University will help to provide a foundation on which you will make your contribution to a better future for yourselves”, said Prof Dr Anwar Ejaz Baig, Advisor to the Chancellor, Ziauddin University. Prof. Dr. Ail Akbar Sial, Dean Faculty of Pharmacy, Ziauddin University welcomed the new students and highlighted that as they have joined top ranked university of the country, punctuality and productive time management is required to achieve professional goals.

9th Orientation Day

The College of Speech Language and Hearing Sciences (CSLHS), Ziauddin University hosted their 9th orientation ceremony on Tuesday, 12th January 2016 to welcome their new batch of students in the BS Audiology & Speech Language Therapy program. “CSLHS was established in 2006, with the aim of catering 24 million individuals”, said Ms. Amina Siddiqui, Principal ZCSLHS, who has been the backbone and driving force of this endeavor ever since. She welcomed the 9th batch and wished them luck for their academic journey. The annual report of 2015 presented by Ms. Amina revealed an increase in the number of patients seeking treatment. Ms. Siddiqui expressed that the biggest accomplishment of this year by the CSLHS was conducting its 1st National conference on Communication, Voice and Swallowing Disorders where the faculty and several others from notable institutes participated and presented their researches. Addressing the consul generals of Switzerland and Malaysia, she emphasized that mutual collaborations will lead to the exchange of faculty, students, and cutting edge research. Also that she looked forward to reciprocation from both the countries.

The Chief Guest of the event, Mr. Muhammad Ismail Bkri, Consul General of Malaysia proposed student and lecturer exchange programs for the improvement of the education system in both the countries. Consul General of Switzerland, Mr. Emil Wyss, praised the efforts of ZCSLHS and the youth of Pakistan as a whole. He also congratulated the parents of the new students. Prof. Dr. Anwar Ejaz Beg, advisor to the Chancellor, thanked both the consul generals for their presence at the ceremony and stressed upon the increasing significance and scope of this profession in society, and Pakistan at large, especially in the realm of dysphasia. “The real life experiences you gain here will surpass all textbook knowledge,” said Tahoora Javed, an alumnus, recounting the rewarding and priceless moments she has spent at the college and clinic. Addressing the new batch, she spoke about the enormous responsibilities and demands placed upon a Speech Language Therapist and Audiologist since there are only a handful of professionals and countless people in need of their services. Earlier, Ms. Ifrah Shah, Senior lecturer and Head of Student Affairs, ZCSLHS welcomed the students and guided them regarding the code of conduct in classes and clinics. The upcoming batch was given an overview of curriculum and courses, faculty, learning and assessment methods by Mr. Shahid Ali, Assistant Professor at the college. He also familiarized them with the clinic and college blocks.

The ceremony concluded with the prize distribution to the outstanding students of BS SLT and the graduates of the Diploma in Childhood Development and Psychopathology.
