COLLABORATION WITH THE INDUS HOSPITAL

The CSLHS thereby aims to extend their realm of clinical services, through their final year students under supervision of the Speech Language Therapist at the TIH clinic to a larger number of children and adults presenting with communication, feeding, swallowing, and hearing impediments, of any degree in severity.

SCOPE

The TIH shall provide clinic space in their OPD for speech language therapy and facilitate the student ASLTs, to assess and treat In-patients admitted in their wards.

The patients seen by the final year student ASLTs of the CSLHS shall be from the realms of :

  • Child language disorders with or without cognitive impediments (specific language impairment, autism, mental retardation, auditory processing disorders, sensory processing disorders).
  • Adult language disorders of neurogenic origin  with or without cognitive impediments (aphasia, dementia, language disorders after TBI, or RHS).
  • Child and adult speech disorders (phonological disorders; misarticulation; dysfluency, dysphonias)
  • Child and adult motor speech disorders of neurogenic origin (dyspraxia, dysarthria)
  • Child and adult feeding and swallowing disorders (children with cerebral palsy, TBI, adults presenting with dysphagia post TBI, CVA)

The final year student ASLTs of the CSLHS are:

  • Seeing child and adult patients in the clinic rooms on OPD basis and In – patients within the wards of TIH.
  • Conducting screening and detailed assessments of child and adult patients presenting with all speech, language, feeding and swallowing disorders, as well as hearing impairment  as mentioned above
  • Conducting individualised and group therapy, of all speech, language, feeding and swallowing disorders, and hearing impairments  as mentioned above;
  • Counselling the care givers on transfer and carryover of therapy at home as well as provide verbal and written feedback of the patients’ condition on periodic basis.
  • Conducting parent training on a regular basis to facilitate the progress in therapy.
  • Working within a multidisciplinary team with other health care service personnel in TIH to ensure best results to all patients seen.
