ZU signed MoU with Oxfam Pakistan on Gender Edutainment

Mr Omer J Ghani, Program Specialist HEDP, R&D Division, HEC and Secretary of PM’s Startup Pakistan Program visited Ziauddin University on 28th October 2020 on the invitation of Director ORIC. He met with the Vice-Chancellor, the Registrar and Director ORIC and later he was briefed on the research & innovation at Ziauddin University by the ORIC team.


Karachi – November 26, 2020: Ziauddin University has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Oxfam Pakistan – non-Profit Organization – on Gender Edutainment. The purpose of this MoU is to set forth the framework for collaboration between Ziauddin University and OXFAM Pakistan in the areas of gender-based violence through edutainment approach in the university setting.

On the occasion of the signing ceremony of MoU, Prof. Pirzada Qasim Raza Siddiqui, Vice Chancellor, Ziauddin University said “we really appreciate the objective of this MoU. It is very important for the university students to be aware of their rights and to know more about harassment policies to control it in universities and workplaces”.

Sartaj Abbasi, Gender Specialist, Oxfam Pakistan while talking about the objective of the MoU said “we bring equality in the society for transgenders women and children and our aim is to raise awareness about gender issues within the institutions. We support all educational institutes for the implementations of workplace harassment. Through this MoU we will be working with the anti-harassment committee of the university and we will introduce the training programs for the anti-harassment committee and its purpose would be to compile your university more towards HEC’S Policy of harassment”.

Ziauddin University and Oxfam Pakistan has agreed to certain terms and conditions while signing the Memorandum of Understanding which includes, a) setting up the Harassment Complaint Cell (HCC), and strengthening its capacity in line with HECs Policy on Protection Against Sexual Harassment in Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) developed by HEC and the Protection Against Harassment of Women at Workplace Act, 2010, b) wall painting murals in the institute reflecting various dimensions of gender-based violence, gender stereotypes and gender power imbalances, c) to help each other in development and screening of the four animated movies focusing on youth and gender-based violence on the social media platforms, d) also, to hold sessions with students and teachers on gender stereotypes and adverse social norms that lead to violence against women and girls.

Sartaj Abbasi, Gender Specialist, Oxfam Pakistan and Capt (R) S. Waqar Hussain Registrar, Ziauddin University signed the MoU on behalf of both organizations.
