DENTAL HYGIENE AND TECHNOLOGY
Dental Hygiene and Technology is a dynamic, multidisciplinary programme that blends preventive dental care with technical expertise in dental appliance construction. It focuses on the study of dental diseases, patient counselling, and preventive therapies, while also equipping students with the skills needed to fabricate dental prosthetics and appliances.
A dental laboratory technologist is a highly skilled professional who combines craftsmanship with scientific knowledge. Working closely with dentists, they design and construct appliances used to repair, replace, or reposition teeth—such as crowns, dentures, bridges, and orthodontic devices. Precision, attention to detail, and manual dexterity are critical qualities for success in this field.Â
Clinical Observership & Skills Training
Students participate in structured observerships at the Dental Department of Ziauddin University, Clifton Campus, where they are attached with experienced dental technologists and dentists. These observerships offer valuable exposure to real-world dental lab procedures, allowing students to understand the workflow and craftsmanship behind constructing complete dentures, removable and fixed partial dentures, orthodontic appliances, and more.
Students observe dental cleanings, oral health assessments, and the creation of dental prosthetics. These experiences link dental theory with hands-on practice and patient interaction in real clinical environments. Â
