READ DIPLOMA COURSE (RDC)

The READ Diploma Course (RDC) is a six-month programme offered by READ in collaboration with the College of Speech Language & Hearing Sciences, Ziauddin University. The course focuses on teaching participants about learning difficulties in children, with an emphasis on dyslexia and related issues. It covers assessment and remediation techniques. The programme has been improved with new resources and updated research. RCD emphasizes research-based theories and practical application through a practicum component. 

This course is designed for educators (teachers, tutors, and special needs specialists), therapists, and other professionals who work with students who have learning issues, as well as parents and caregivers who want to help their children with dyslexia.

Duration

The duration of RDC will be six months, with 20 hours of practicum training.

  • Three days a week for three hours in the morning and afternoon.
  • Additional hours at the centre for familiarization with research, teaching, and learning materials.

The examination will be conducted jointly by the READ and CSLHS, Ziauddin University.

Course Description

This comprehensive course delves into the world of learning differences, equipping educators with the knowledge and tools to support students effectively. Through engaging modules on background theory, learning modalities (visual, auditory, and kinesthetic), reading & spelling, comprehension, and assessment, you’ll gain a strong foundation. Additionally, the course explores dyslexia and related issues, providing practical teaching strategies and materials.  Theory is interwoven with practical application through assignments at the end of each unit and a focus on research-backed teaching methods.

  • An undergraduate degree, A level, or acceptable teacher-certification.
  • English language/math teaching experience is advantageous.

Introduction
 

The CSLHS commenced a Diploma in Childhood Development and Psychopathology (DCDP) in August 2013. The programme caters towards teachers, remedial and early childhood educationists, and parents who want to enhance their knowledge in this area of early childhood development. DCDP follows a modular curriculum, which emphasises in – depth training, 7 modules covering human development from conception through Adolescence and Childhood Disorders are taught. In addition 16 hours of observations (practical component) is mandatory at CSLHS recommended schools. Assistance is provided for the observation placement at the schools.

This course examines the physical, cognitive and social development with diagnostic and intervention techniques for early childhood disorders.
