Our three-day workshop, titled ‘NGS Unveiled: From DNA Extraction to Bioinformatics Analysis,’ proved to be a resounding success, bringing together 36 participants from 14 diverse institutions within the province. This event was particularly notable for its innovative approach, offering hands-on experiences in library preparation and Next-Generation Sequencing (NGS) analysis, which not only deepened the participants’ understanding but also equipped them with valuable NGS skills. These newfound capabilities are sure to drive progress in genomics research, where the study of an organism’s entire DNA holds the promise of addressing a multitude of biological questions.
The workshop was jointly organized by the Department of Molecular Medicine and the Department of Research in collaboration with the 23rd Pair Lab, with generous sponsorship from Hospicare and Molecular Biology Products. The program director, Prof. Dr. Talat Mirza, provided enlightening insights to the participants, focusing on the clinical significance of genomics within modern healthcare and medicine. The event also received attention from Hon. Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Irfan Haider and the dean Faculty of Health Sciences, Prof. Dr. Abass Zafar, who addressed the audience and presented certificates and shields to the deserving participants.
Dr. Ambrina Khatoon, the chief organizer and Incharge of the Genomics Lab at Ziauddin University, played a pivotal role in ensuring the event’s success and impact. Alongside her, the dedicated team members, including Mr. Muhammad Jhazaib, Dr. Yamna Khurshid, Ms. Urfa Karim, and Dr. Madeeha Sadiq, made significant contributions to the workshop’s achievements.”
