Ziauddin University hosts Mehfil-e-Tanz-o-Mazah with prominent poets

Karachi – July 16: 2017: Ziauddin University & Hospital organized a unique kind of event, titled “Mehfil-e-Tanz-o-Mazah”, at Abul Hasan Jafray Auditorium, Ziauddin University, Clifton campus, where renowned poets including Saeed Agha, Haider Hasnain Jalisi and Allaudin Khanzada well known for funny and sarcastic style presented their comedy poetry and enthralled the audience.

The event was attended by staff members and the guests from other walks of life who enjoyed and warmly welcomed the guest poets. Patron-in-chief of Ziauddin Group Dr Aijaz Fatima was the guest of honour on the occasion.

Prof Dr Pirzada Qasim Raza Siddiqui, Vice Chancellor, Ziauddin University, addressing on the occasion appreciated the efforts of PR department and said that since we have become very much professional in our lives, the holding of such light entertainment events is quite compulsory to change the taste of life and the environment. Sarcasm and jokes are very serious and intelligent acts, we are here because we know that these poets can point out some very serious issues of our society. We need to develop versatility like this event, he added.

Earlier, Amir Shahzad, Senior Manager, PR & Communications, Ziauddin University in his welcome address said that by hosting this Mehfil-e-Tanz-o-Mazah they wanted to bring closer all the members of Group branches. He said that since our lives are full of stress and workload we should arrange few entertaining events for spreading happiness among employees and I feel proud to say that Ziauddin University is doing this since last many years and we hope to continue this trend in future too. The purpose of this event is to entertain employees and to spread happiness among workers and management under the umbrella of Ziauddin Group.

Conference “Bridging the Gap in Primary Health Care Innovations, Translations & Beyond

Ziauddin University organized the 3-day International Conference “Bridging the Gap in Primary Health Care Innovations, Translations & Beyond…….”

The conference was attended by a large number of doctors, professors, educationists and medical students. The Chief guest Dr. Shabbir Ahmed Lehri, President Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC), and Principal, Bolan Medical College, Quetta said while addressing the inaugural session that the things are changing day by day epecially in medical technology due to issues relating to living habits. He further stated that ninety percent of private medical organizations are working in the country benefitting people and students but the other ten percent are just making money. Dr Lehri said that PMDC is to facilitate anyone who is going to operate on merit basis. We have to resolve your problem and issues and facilitate the doctors’ community. He praised the Ziauddin University for being a national institution serving the country with dedication and international standards. He appreciated work and the efforts of the Ziauddin University administration for arranging such an informative and useful conference. Dr. Maud Nauta the keynote speaker from Camden Health Improvement Practice, London UK in her address on “How and why we make mistakes. Lessons learned from the West”, talked about human factors in primary health care. She shared examples of human factors like work load/ under load, lack of knowledge, pattern recognition, over confidence and said 100,000 people die in hospitals alone due to human error. She pointed out that first we have to find out our errors and then we would be able to solve them. Maud Nauta further stated that all health care professionals strive for improvement in patient care but at least 10% of patients admitted to hospitals encounter a potentially fatal medical error and 50% of these are preventable. Human factors or non-technical skills contribute to at least 70% of these errors, she said. “Harnessing the energy of health care workforce to benefit the community” was the subject discussed by Prof. Dr. Ghaffar Billo, Senior Professor of Pediatrics, Aga Khan University Hospital & Founder of HANDS. He elaborated the functions of his NGO and talked about community empowerment. Earlier, Prof. Dr. Pirzada Qasim Raza Siddiqui, VC, Ziauddin University in his welcome address stated that Ziauddin University is a renowned institution of learning in Pakistan. Sir Dr. Ziauddin Ahmed was a great educationist and mathematician who contributed with Sir Syed Ahmed Khan at Aligarh. His daughter Dr. Ejaz Fatima has established this institution. Pirzada said this is not the time of isolation, he said and invited the people from different parts of the world to come forward and continue this field. The other speakers who addressed the conference included Prof. Ejaz Ahmed Vohra, Prof. Dr. Riaz Qureshi, Dr. Zarrin Siddiqui, Prof. Nighat Huda, Prof. Rukhsana Zuberi, Dr Bazmi Inaam. Prof Dr. Jawaid Usman and Prof Dr. Zaigham Abbas, Prof. Dr. Abbas Zafar, in the end thanked the presenters who have travelled from abroad and all the participants attending the event. The three day event ended with the workshops on Research Methodology, Communication Skills, and Surgical Skills.

Ms. Samina Masood is a professional psychologist who is associated to Therapy Works, Nursing School of Indus Hospital and Ziauddin College of Speech Language and Hearing Sciences. She is a visiting faculty at ZCSLHS as a student advisor and counselor.

As per the decision of the academic council she has been promoted to the position of Assistant Professor. We Congratulate Ms. Samina and wish her success in her future endeavors.

Speaking With Silence!

Taking a step ahead, the students of DPT Final year became the trend setters showing their creativity The social issues of the society were beautifully highlighted through 2 to 3 minutes videos, showing the talents through mannequin challenge and speaking with silence. The assignment was given as a part of social awareness in the coursework of ‘Professional Practices and Teaching Methodology’. The entire class was divided into three groups and a facilitator from the course team provided assistance. The themes were Oppressed, Say No to Bullying and Impact of Social Media to create awareness among the young adults. Students used their DSLR cameras and mobile phones for video recordings.

The videos were played to share the hard work and efforts of the students with their peer and faculty. The Principal, Ms Sumaira appreciated the students on their independent work beginning from rehearsals to making and then editing the video. The enthusiasm of the students was remarkable.

1st Alumni Reunion

Ziauddin University organized its first Alumni Re-Union at Clifton campus.

Prof. Dr. Pirzada Qasim Raza Siddiqui, Vice-Chancellor, Ziauddin University addressing to the event emphasized that Alumni is a key for institutional development. He encouraged Ziauddin University Alumni of all colleges to form their own alumni chapters and hold regular events.

Conducted The Satellite Symposia

College of nursing conducted the satellite symposia at the 3-day international conference “Bridging the Gap in Primary Health Care Innovations, Translations & Beyond…….” The session was chaired by Prof. Dr. Rozina Karamaliani and Ms. Shireeen Arif. The experts Ms. Alia Nasir, Prof. Dr. Jaqueline Dias, Ms. Khairunnisa Huda and Ms. Shamsa Samani presented their talks on the theme of the conference ‘Widening the window for collective impact of translational medicine approach on improved community outcomes’. The talks were followed by the free paper and poster presentation.

The Smart Drug Surveillance System monitors a patient’s compliance to their prescribed medical treatment. Drug is most effective when taken at its appropriate time and with prescribed dosage. It is quite common for patients to skip doses or consume little or more of the drug than is required. These are the negligence that the Smart Drug Surveillance System aims to cater.

The system is a microcontroller-based measuring tool. It’s integrated with GSM (Global System for Mobile communication) technology, which will send reports via SMS to the concerned, intimating them about the medicine dosage. The system works with the household ac-source but in case of power breakdown, it can function with an attached battery as well. It is cost-effective and user-friendly means of monitoring medication.
